Ottawa Library Announces Temporary Service Adjustments for Essential HVAC Upgrades
OTTAWA, KS – Beginning in February 2026, the Ottawa Library will undergo significant HVAC system renovations to ensure a comfortable and efficient environment for all patrons. These infrastructure improvements are essential, however, they will require temporary department closures and the relocation of some services through early May.
The project will be completed in phases to minimize disruption:
Phase 1
Reference Department Closure
✔️ Completed March 13th
Beginning in February and extending through the first week of March, the Reference department will be closed to the public. The following services will be moved to the Circulation Department to ensure continued access to vital resources:
Photocopying and printing
Faxing services
Notary Public access
Current Newspapers and Magazines
Week of Spring Break - March 16- March 21 - Entire Library Open.
Phase 2 & 3 combined
⚠️ Mechanical Work & Noise Alerts & Circ closed
March 23rd - Early May
Beginning March 23, the entirety of April and potentially the first week of May, crews will focus on the library’s mechanical room in the basement and the Circulation department.
During this phase:
The Reference Department will be open (reopened March 13)
Expect increased noise levels
Reduced number of public use computers
Off-site Services: Staff and library programming will move to a temporary location at 204 S Walnut Street.
Holds Pickup: Staff will continue to pull patron holds. These items can be picked up and checked out within the Reference Department, which will be open by this time. Staff is happy to assist patrons in placing hold.
Meeting Room Availability
Please note that all library meeting rooms will be unavailable for the duration of the HVAC project (February through May).
We appreciate the community's patience as we complete these necessary mechanical upgrades. Our goal is to keep as many services active as possible while ensuring the safety of our patrons.
