Celebrating National Library Week 2026

Welcome to arguably the best week of the year! April 19–25 is National Library Week, a time to celebrate our nation's libraries, the people who work in them, and the community members who walk through our doors every day.

This year’s theme is "Find Your Joy." Whether you find joy in the smell of an old book, the excitement of a toddler discovering a favorite story, or the relief of finally mastering a new digital skill, Ottawa Library is here to help you find it.

Why We Celebrate

National Library Week was first sponsored in 1958, but its mission remains the same: to remind us all that libraries are more than just buildings full of books. We are vibrant community hubs that foster curiosity, spark imagination, and provide a welcoming space for everyone in Ottawa and Franklin County.

Tuesday, April 21: National Library Workers Day

While we love our building and our collection, it’s our people who make Ottawa Library special. On Tuesday, April 21, we invite you to join us in celebrating National Library Workers Day.

From the friendly faces at the circulation desk and the librarians who curate our collections, to the staff behind the scenes and the tech experts who keep our digital resources running—our team works tirelessly to serve Ottawa.

How can you help us celebrate?

• Say "Hi": If a staff member has helped you find a great read or navigate a tricky research project, let them know you appreciate them!

• Share a Story: Post on social media about a positive experience you’ve had at Ottawa Library and use the hashtag #NLWD26 or #OttawaLibrary.

• Donate: Give to our capital improvement campaign as we move towards writing our new chapter at 204 S Walnut St. (donate.ottawalibrary.org)
