February Events:

Feb. 17-2oth The Great Backyard Bird Count  Pick up your forms at the library to participate in the Bird Count for Franklin County.

We will have the checklist for you to tally your sightings of birds in the area, you can return the forms to Lisa and she will submit your counts for you.

You may join us at the Library on Friday Feb. 17 at noon to ID birds outside the Library/City Hall grounds.  We’ll provide field guide books, bring your binoculars and cameras if you have them, bring your lunch.  We will only cancel if it’s raining hard, or snowing hard (can you remember what snow looks like?) or icy.

Your counts can help answer questions:

  • How will this winter’s weather influence bird populations?
  • How will the timing of birds’ migrations compare with past years?
  • How are bird diseases, such as West Nile virus, affecting birds in different regions?
  • What kinds of differences in bird diversity are apparent in cities versus suburban, rural, and natural areas?
  •  If you want to access it through the internet yourself go to www.birdcount.org
