Dreams from My Father Thursday, March 25th, 2 pm at the Ottawa University Student Union, Haigh Room NOTE this Time has changed from 7 pm to 2 pm in the afternoon.
We will enjoy a presentation from students who went to S. Africa followed by a discussion.

The last section “Kenya” will be discussed on the evening of  Thursday March 25th at 2 pm at the Ottawa University Student Union. Barack Obama visits Kenya, while getting to know his African family he finds out that his father’s life was more complex and less perfect than the idealized image he had of him.

Co-hosting with Ottawa University Myers Library, Gloria Creed-Dikeogu will bring knowledge from her native South African roots to the discussions. Books available for check out now.

TALK books discussion continues…The last book in the series about World Faiths is by Alifa Rifaat. Rifaat’s stories reveal the private longing and strength of Islamic women. She also lifts the veil on how many Islamic women covertly revolt against traditions that silence and bind them.

Kansas Humanities TALK program discussion leader will be Sanda Wiechert of Lawrence.

Other forms can be found at www.irs.gov

Libraries will not receive any Kansas paper forms in 2010. The State of Kansas is strongly encouraging that taxes be filed online in 2010.

State tax forms can be requested at 785-296-4937.
File online at Kansas WebFile:

  • To get a PIN, call 1-800-525-3901.
  • Call 785-296-8841 if you experience difficulty filing online.

Skidmore is representing the Goppert Foundation which recently granted the library money to create a Young Adult Center for teens. This will provide a place to nourish and foster teen involvement in the library. Furniture will be added to create a space to study and work on laptops.
Micheal Skidmore said,”This is really special to be able to deliver this grant money here because my father was an architect and he designed this original building when it was the Franklin Savings and Loan”. The Goppert Foundation was formed nearly 50 years ago to meet the needs of communities served by Goppert-owned banks in Kansas and Missouri.
The American Eagle Outfitters Foundation also awarded a $2500 grant to help in the creation of the center for teens. The AE Foundation awards organizations that enrich the lives of youth in communities where an AE company is located.
