Service Spotlight – Meet & Eat

Service Spotlight - Meet & Eat

Friday, October 26th by Derrick Larcom

The library is often seen as a place to feed your minds, but to a few in our community it is also a place to feed your body.
Tuesdays and Thursdays we host Harvester’s Meet & Eat in our Children’s Activity Room from 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM. Children, ranging from Preschool through 12th grade, are invited to enjoy a small meal with activities afterwards. These meals must be eaten in our activity room (or the Cave for children ages 12-18). As per library policy, children under the age of 9 must be accompanied by an attentive adult.
Not everyone in our community has the luxury of knowing where their next meal will come from. We have discrete brown bag meals located at our Reference desk and our Circulation desk downstairs. These brown bag meals are usually out on the counter, but supplies are limited. Unlike our Meet & Eat meals, these may be taken home and are not restricted to specific age groups.
Our partnership with Harvester’s Community Food Network allows to provide meals to our community.  Additionally, we occasionally have workshop events like Kids in the Kitchen to educate children about healthy eating habits and cooking safety.
